The Lemon Tree LLC - Ipswich, MA

Updated: Jan 13, 2020

This little gem nestled in the outskirts of downtown Ipswich, MA has a boho vibe, great smoothies, fresh squeezed juices, GF baked goodies and more. A collaboration between three cousins: Erin, Emily & Paige, The Lemon Tree is dedicated gluten free that uses no refined sugar. Inspired by Erin’s five year struggle to uncover a fructose allergy, supported by Emily’s experience as a Nutritional Therapist for a respected Newburyport Naturopath, and Paige’s attention to business details, The Lemon Tree is a labor of love for these three women.

Erin found herself “unable to find food anywhere on-the-go”, due to a diagnosed fructose allergy, “so that’s where this idea came from”. Emily keeps them true to the vision of no refined sugars, as she vets the recipes that Erin and Paige create. While they are not “certified” gluten free, they use no gluten in their kitchen. Some of their baked goods come from places that make both gluten free and non gluten free items, so just ask and they will give you guide you appropriately. They use only whole ingredients and their produce is sourced from local farms.

The Lemon Tree opened its doors three years ago, and has recently seen a large increase in business as people traveling up from Boston to check them out. They are best known for their “Funky Monkey” smoothie which tasted like a peanut butter cup (minus all of the junk!). I had my pickiest eater try it and he drank it ALL. I tried the Dirty Avocado, which was delicious.

They offer 6 varieties of basic smoothies for $6, with their Superfood smoothies ranging from $7.50-$9.00. They also serve fresh squeezed juices made to order, and baked goods like scones, paleo muffins made with coconut flour, peanut butter bars and some inspired lunch specials, to name a few.

My favorite was a fresh out of the oven, gluten free everything bagel, topped with grass fed butter.

The cafe has recently updated its look with new flooring and refreshed decor. Next time you are in Ipswich, MA - perhaps traveling to beautiful Crane's Beach, stop in for some tasty GF treats, refreshing smoothies and juices. Be sure to tell them that GFSavvyMama sent you :)
